Forest fires and silver linings

Well it’s been a hot minute since we’ve had an update and a lot has happened since then. Blair took off on her planned solo canoe trip but unfortunately was forced to evacuate after a week of travel. What started as a 0.1 hectare fire of RED065 in Ontario on July 2nd rapidly grew to several hundred and then thousand hectares in a matter of days. With several other fires brewing in her area, and a developing eye problem, Blair backtracked and we picked her up at her drop off. You can see the route map here. It’s a shame when you have to back out of a trip you’ve been planning for long time but in our opinion, it takes a heck of a lot of wisdom and courage to say no and turn around. While disappointing, it opened up new opportunities to do a different trip. We’ll be heading out to backpack the North Coast Trail in British Columbia. We love canoeing but we also like to switch things up sometimes and a road trip followed by backpacking in one of the wettest and rainiest regions of Canada sounded just about right! Keep an eye on our Instagram and Youtube channel for videos and pictures upon our return. Until then, any orders will be fulfilled after our expected return of August 18th. Happy travels everyone and remember that keeping safe just means a guarantee for future adventures!

Cheers

Eric and Blair

Welcome!

Welcome to our updates page! On this page we’ll be posting updates on where we are travelling, routes that we’re researching, and anything else that we think you might be interested.

Summer 2025:

Starting off, Blair will be heading out on a solo trip along the Throat River, Ontario to the Beren’s River of Manitoba. This will be a 53 day solo trip adding to the portfolio of solo-canoe adventures that Blair has under her belt, which include a 32 day trip down the Grass River of Manitoba in 2023, her 800 km 60 day adventure from Lake Superior to Manitoba in 2020, and the Woman River and Cat River in 2024. Most of the food, gear, and logistics are all prepped and there are only a few details left to tie-up. We’ll include some photos in our next post so you can see what that process looks like.

Doing these long trips is one of the ways that we get our information for the maps that we build. We can’t personally paddle every route (yet), but we do our best to get as much first hand experience as possible for our research.

Cheers!

Eric and Blair
