Setting off on a canoe trip can be dangerous, but it doesn’t have to be.

With proper preparation and planning, and the right set of maps, you can set off on the next canoe trip with confidence.

That being said, there is always an element of risk, and it’s important to take the current conditions and your skill level into account when planning your trip.

We always do our absolute best to ensure that the information is accurate, but users should be aware that the information contained in our maps is derived from a variety of sources:

  • old route and trail descriptions from a variety of sources

  • personal trip journals and diaries of other travellers

  • books, magazines, and journals

  • verbal descriptions and interviews

Conditions change from season to season and from year to year. As a wilderness paddler, you must be able to determine whether the actual conditions on the water match those the maps are based on, and have the ability to assess whether your equipment and skill level are appropriate to paddle the route safely. Information contained in our maps are not a replacement for in the moment confirmation of rapid levels and conditions; scouting of rapids before descending is the responsibility of all paddlers.
