This route includes the western arm of St Joseph Lake and the northern section of St. Raphael Provincial Park. St. Raphael is a non-operational Provincial Park in Northwestern Ontario and is composed of an interconnected series of lakes for flatwater paddling. The remote rocky shores and rolling hills of the Canadian Shield provide breathtaking scenery and a sense of remoteness, as well as idyllic granite campsites. There are several lodges throughout the area on the larger lakes. The forest is dominated by spruce, jack pine and poplar, which provide an ideal habitat for a variety of bird species. It is also within the southern ranges of Woodland Caribou herds.
