Beautiful river with many attractive features. Most rapids are <100 meters and have a pool after them. Canadian Shield ecology means lots of exposed rock for spacious campsites and warm sunbathing. The Grass River is a relatively narrow river sectioned between many large lakes with road access. As a northern route, it is relatively secluded, however, due to the easy road access throughout you're likely to meet friendly boaters. This river is runnable at all water levels, however rapids can become rocky and require portaging at lower water levels. This route is appropriate for moderately experienced groups.

Moderate.

380km; 22-28 days

Multiple C3 rapids, several Falls and C4/C5 rapids. Portages available.
Large lakes on the route can mean several windbound days. Plan 3-4 spare days at least in preparation.
Several evacuation points to road access on the major lakes throughout the route.
Isolation: Likely to meet boaters on the major lakes, but isolated along the river itself. Some lodges & cabins throughout.
Black bears are present throughout.
-
Access: Route can be accessed at several points by car, hydroplane or paddling in across Cranberry Portage. A train can be taken to Flin Flon and then hire a shuttle to drive you the 30min. to Cranberry Portage.
